AS & A Level Courses
Traditional qualifications for the best universities.
A Levels are traditionally the standard qualification required to obtain a place at a UK university. These days, international students also have the option of University Foundation courses, which we also offer. A Levels tend to be longer courses and, as well as being an independent qualification, they provide a more in-depth preparation for university study.
It is only through A Levels that certain courses, such as Medicine, and certain universities can be accessed in the UK.Courses normally last five or six terms (1½ - 2 years), and always finish in June. The period required may be longer if an English Language preparatory course is required.
Usually students take three or four AS (Advanced Subsidiary) Levels at the end of the first year, and three A (Advanced) Levels at the end of the course. AS Level grades obtained contribute to the final A Level grade. Please see the list of subject options below.
Advice is always given by our staff before choices are finalised, based on personal preferences and preferred subsequent degree course study. Regular assessment rewards students who work consistently well throughout the course. For all subjects there is some emphasis placed on self-study and self-discipline, in preparation for university life.
Students may have a number of private study periods in their timetables which can be spent in the college library or computer rooms. Study Skills are taught as part of every course. Students typically receive two hours of homework per weekday evening. Practical work in our science laboratories is a necessary requirement for science subjects.

I decided to come here after hearing about the school from a representative in my home town of Penang. I was fortunate enough to be awarded a partial scholarship because of my strong results and references.
Since I came here there has been so much that has impressed me. In particular my teachers are excellent - not just in the way they teach but also in the way they take an interest in my general progress. I have now accepted an offer from Cambridge University to study Aeronautical Engineering.
